Erika Reimers (They/Them)
As a genderqueer, gay therapist I’m particularly passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ communities. I understand the experience of being othered, distanced from, or cut off from support systems for daring to be who we are, and am honored to offer kind space and affirmation for others in my community.
I work hard to dismantle the hidden and overt “isms” (racism, sexism, classism, antisemitism etc,) and phobias (transphobia, homophobia, islamophobia, etc.) within and around me through training, honest self-reflection, seeking perspectives different from my own, and a commitment to lifelong learning and unlearning.
I believe this is a lifelong journey. In a time of unprecedented backlash against trans identity, I also don’t take lightly the important work of supporting adolescents, adults, and entire families who are on gender journeys. And it is the entire family who takes this journey–not just the young person. I’m honored to be a support for the whole family, and help you all navigate processes that can seem daunting.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in private practice with over a decade of experience working with children and their families in their homes and in the community. I utilize a trauma-focused and resilience-based lens, which means that as your therapist, I honor both your struggle and your strengths in the work we do together.
My Approach
Being trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems) level 1 and Family Systems Theory, I think from a systems perspective. This means I not only support the individual client I support the systems around you including family, schools, psychiatrists and anybody else you feel is a support to your system.
